Sub-degree rotation from commodity IMUs

Challenge

Measure vertical rotational rate from 0.5 to 60 deg/s in a swinging, magnetically noisy environment (ruling out magnetometers), on a board costing under $100 to make. No single low-cost IMU can resolve this.

Approach

Fused three 6-DOF IMUs with custom mathematical models and filters, and dynamically cancel gyro bias drift over time to keep readings honest.

Result

Hit the full 0.5-60 deg/s range within ~10% error, held over time, on a sub-$100 board — performance usually tied to far costlier hardware.
